Jelení príkop 98 was the first festival of dance music in the Czech Republic. It took place under the Prague Castle on May 29 and 30, 1998. Some of the image files on this page are quite large. They may take a little while to load.

  808 State
friday 28.5., 10 pm to 0.30 am

 after midnight..

 KICKIN!
808 State are wild, sharp, play intense breakbeat that gets more and more energetic. The drummer plays good, the guitarist is freaky, the DJ also MCs (This is 808 State from Manchester.. this is a new song for ya"), the videos work (a funny thing - 808 State are using a projection of a dancing baby that The Orb will use the next day), the sound is fine apart from the bass but a band like this can survive minor problems and -
silence.
A break.
The sound is suddenly off and no one seems to know why. Worse, it turns out that this is no small break - Jeleni Prikop is silent for about 45 minutes which is pretty hard. But the empathetic crowd is really friendly and does not get angry with the bloody machines.
BANGIN! The band is back again and plays more new stuff AND stuff from the brilliant Ex:el album from 91. What more can we wish? Perhaps a little less aggressive sound (all the songs are fast and hard)? Probably not. This is just the band's vision after 10 years in the scene - and 808 State are not tired at all.

Wait, what is going on under that tree on the side of the venue? A naked woman hanging upside down above a burning fire and *dances* along the DJ's music. She seems like she does this every day - plain, fluent moves, no sign of anything forced... what the hell is that? We have seen performers at parties but this is something stronger and stranger. We watch her breathless for about 10 minutes and just wonder how she did that.
